109. Hawk's Nightmare

December 21, 1976 (U-804)

Written by: Burt Prelutsky
Directed by: Burt Metcalfe
Guest Stars: Sean Roche as Private Burke.
Semi-regulars: Allan Arbus as Dr. Sidney Freedman. Patricia Stevens as Nurse (possibly Able).

Plot: Hawkeye is annoyed by the youth of the wounded they are getting in. He starts to sleepwalk. After a couple of particularly disturbing nightmares, where his childhood friends get killed horribly, the Colonel sends for Sidney Freedman to unpick Hawkeye’s brain. Sidney reassures Hawkeye that it is the horror of the war which is convincing his brain to regress to childhood and that he'll get over it.

The Klinger Collection: Klinger starts in uniform, but with earrings. Later, a lovely blue and white spotted dress with purple trim. Then his pink house-coat with a scarf on his head. And finally, a pink dress with a white collar and a straw hat.

Continuity is for Wimps: Hawkeye’s dad was born in Crabapple Cove and lived there all his life, which means he probably didn’t used to live in Vermont (Episode 12, Dear Dad in Season 1) and it probably isn’t their summer cottage (Episode 76, The Late Captain Pierce in Season 4). Then again, who can tell?

Comments: There wasn’t a heck of a lot of substance to this one. Much as I love Dr Freedman, he tends to turn up in really nothing episodes.
